Sciton Contour Laser

The Washington Institute of Dermatologic Laser Surgery was one of the first centers in the country to offer skin rejuvenation treatment with the erbium:YAG laser. This laser technology allows the physician to resurface the skin without the "downtime" associated with traditional carbon dioxide laser resurfacing.  Substantially less time is typically needed for complete healing and side effects and complication rates have been extraordinarily low.

Indications for skin resurfacing with the erbium:YAG laser system include mottled skin pigmentation from cumulative sun damage, freckles and other brown spots, mild acne scars, and fine wrinkles. While use of the carbon dioxide laser is usually limited to the facial skin, the erbium:YAG laser may be used in certain instances to treat the neck as well.

The erbium:YAG laser cannot take the place of the carbon dioxide laser when there are deep wrinkles, scars, or sagging skin (jowling). It does, however, provide a "quick fix" for those patients in their twenties, thirties, and forties with uneven pigmentation, blotchiness, shallow scars and fine wrinkles.

Our Erbium laser produces less heating or burning of surrounding tissues than other lasers used for resurfacing. This allows your laser technician to gently and comfortably vaporize the damaged skin cells layer by layer. Most cases require only a local or topical anesthetic.

Also recent studies have shown that the Erbium Laser stimulates the production of collagen, creating a tightening and smoothing of the skin for a younger looking you.
