Laser Removal of Vascular Lesions
These lesions result from blood vessels which become enlarged (or dilated), such as port-wine stains (red birthmarks like Mikhail Gorbachev's) or spider veins. They can also appear when too many blood vessels grow in an area, such as hemangiomas. Vascular-specific lasers can remove the unwanted blood vessels without scarring the normal skin. In general, several laser treatments are necessary to remove port-wine stains and hemangiomas. Spider veins or telangiectasias typically need only a couple of treatment sessions.
